CTI Digital Reflection
Thank you for visiting my digital reflection for my candidate induction program. Please enjoy.
Introduction
For information about my background and education, kindly refer to the about page.
But why, oh why, did I choose to become a teacher? You'll have to figure that out for yourself...

Areas of Strength
- Developing and sequencing long-term and short-term instructional plans to support student learning (4.3). Evidenced by informal and formal data of student improvement in conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills. For example, a student in Mathematics III who initially struggled with solving linear equations can now solve complex rational and radical equations.
- Connecting subject matter to meaningful, real-life contexts (1.3). Evidenced by observations of increased student ability to connect mathematical concepts to real-life examples, particularily in geometry. For example, a student in Mathematics I stated that congruent triangles were used to build the bridge next to the 1 Highway going from Castroville to Marina.
- Collecting and analyzing assessment data from a variety of sources to inform instruction (5.2). Evidenced by materials created and used by teacher. For example, assignments such as Error Busters and Create Your Own (p2 only) assess students' ability to reason mathematically and think creatively.
Areas for Growth
- Promoting social development and responsibility within a caring community where each student is treated fairly and respectfully (2.1). In order to grow in this area, I need to learn more about students' culture and community.
- Involving all students in self-assessment, goal setting, and monitoring progress (5.5). In order to grow in this area, I need to establish a routine that guides student reflection on progress on a regular basis.
- Engaging local communities in support of the instructional program (6.5). In order to grow in this area, I need to learn more about neighborhood and community resources. For example, one of my Spanish-only students expressed interest in becoming a doctor and I would have liked to have been able to provide resources for her.
Accomplishments
- Think-Pair-Share: implementing this strategy has increased academic discourse and emphasized the importance of student voice in my classroom.
- Project-Based Learning: projects help students integrate mathematics into their daily lives.
- Professional Collaboration: I never thought of myself as much of a team asset until I met my amazing colleagues here.

Impact on Student Success
Solving Complex Problems
Note: These are recreations of student work examples. These students are not my most advanced students. I wanted to feature their work to demonstrate the effects of peer collaboration, valuing student voice, and encouraging student creativity.
